Fingerprinting |

|
What is Live Scan Fingerprinting? Live Scan is a device that electronically takes your fingerprints and other information, then uploads that information to the FDLE (Florida Dept. of Law Enforcement) who in turn sends them to the FBI for a fingerprint background check. Live Scan is a computer digitized fingerprinting that replaces the process of recording fingerprint patterns through a rolling process using ink. This system allows for the electronic transfer of fingerprint image data to DOJ in a matter of seconds, instead of the days required to send print card through the mail. This system also allows for the results to be received within days, versus seven to ten weeks required for a print card.
Do I need to do a live scan again if I have already done it once or more before?
Yes. The DOJ does not share your information with other agencies. It is against the law for different agencies to share confidential fingerprint results with each other. An applicant’s Live Scan form acts as a release for a criminal history response to be sent to the specified requesting agency. This means that you must submit a new application each time a criminal history is requested of you; therefore you must go through the Live Scan process again. Previous Live Scan information CANNOT be utilized. You must be Live Scan fingerprinted any time you change employers when you work in the public school system.
